How many names of Allah are there?
The hadith states that Allah has ninety-nine names, and whoever enumerates them will enter Paradise. However, the Qur'an and Sunnah do not present a single closed list — the names of Allah are not limited to ninety-nine, and scholars have compiled the list of ninety-nine in more than one way.
Where does the list of 99 names come from?
The list most widely published, and the one used on this page, comes from a narration of Abu Hurayrah recorded by at-Tirmidhi (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 3507). Scholars have observed that the enumeration inside that narration is attributed to a transmitter rather than to the Prophet ﷺ directly, which is why other compilations differ on a small number of entries.
